January 24, 2009 - Results from the T-Town Winter Warm Up
We had a great turnout for an awesome tournament at Bowers Park for the 1st event of the Yellowhammer State Tour.  There was some thrilling competition on all levels in this two round event.  The day started with a cold, steady drizzle which lasted through most of the first round.  The clouds broke, the sun shone, and the scores improved for the second round.
Matt Orum of Mobile, AL finished in first place in the Open division with an overall score of -7 (54 in the first round, 47 in the second round).  The top finisher from the TDGC was Jay Woodroof who was competing in the Open division and finished at -2 (53, 53).
In the lower divisions, a local Tuscaloosa player, Eric Stephens, not only out-performed everyone in the Intermediate division in which he was competing, but he also topped everyone in the Advanced division.  Stephens finished at +1 overall with a 57 in the first round and a 52 in the second round.  He also destroyed his Intermediate competition with a 9 stroke advantage over the next best performer.
At the top of the Advanced division, there was a tie between two local players, Drew Patton and Josh Maynor.  They had identical scores in each round (54 and 56) to finish at +2 overall.  Patton edged Maynor in a playoff to win the Advanced division.
The Crimson Tide Disc Golf team, consisting of students at The University of Alabama, had a tremendous showing.  As previously mentioned, Drew Patton and Josh Maynor, both members of the team, topped the Advanced division.  Ben Wales had a strong performance, finishing 2nd in the Intermediate division.  Jim Bailey was competing in his first tournament ever and had a great day to finish 1st in the Recreational division.
